CAN DESIGN

Whether collaborating with a local Philly company, or creating a new brew for our own fridges, our can design is a large part in the promotion and sales of our product.

With each can acting as its own brand, I’m allowed to treat each brew as its own piece of art with individual stories and meanings behind each can.

What starts as a conversation with our brewers turns into a process of research, sketching, and building. By offering variation for our team to choose from, I can be sure to create a final label that exhibits the exact look our brewery wants to capture in each brew.

Hazy Daisy is the perfect case study to show my process in beer-label design. This particular can was made in collaboration with Philadelphia’s Franklin Institute. Every three months, the institution organizes an after-hours event called “Science After Hours," and we have the opportunity to work with them to create a custom beer for each event. After speaking with their team, I began sketching several ideas to bring to life a custom label for a spring-time flora & fauna-inspired event, “Booms & Blooms.”

My first thought was to incorporate Benjamin Franklin himself, sitting in a field of daisies. With a historical nod, the design showcases a levity that matches the fun atmosphere of the after-hours event.

My alternative design focused on the daisies themselves. Offering a colorful option using the palette used in their original Booms & Blooms flyer.

Their team chose the daisy design, loving how it matches the aesthetic of the flyer and brand for the event.

The partnership was so successful that we have made three can designs in collaboration with the Franklin Institute since this initial project.
